I didn't know they had such a cheap version of the Kindle Fire available. Must be new. If I had any money I would get one to replace my old Paperwhite. It's all tied up in my recent move. Does it have as good a screen, high pixel count and their e-ink design, for smooth characters as the Paperwhite? Color is what the Paperwhite lacks, plus an actual operating system rather than the lame one in the Paperwhite.
Does that one have a big enough screen to be really useful? The Paperwhite was designed by Amazon, or whoever they had make it for them, so it would only do what Amazon allowed it to do and it is pretty lame and hard to deal with unless all you want to do is buy ebooks from Amazon and live in that tiny and expensive box.
Gutenberg Press to the rescue there. That one with a camera seems like it is actually a small computer that might be useful rather than so limited as the Paperwhite.
Mon Jan 11, 1: The kindle fire is essentially an LED screen tablet with watered-down android operating system. So while your paperwhite's e-ink probably makes it excellent for reading high contrast, low reflection, good text resolution , the kindle is more of a traditional screen. The screen size is good, text size can be changed on the fly, the resolution is good but not phenomenal, and the backlight is good but can be jarring at night, although there is a way to remove the blue-ish hue for night reading.
I chose it because of it's ability to open. DOC, and. Not sure if paperwhites can open files like this.
You may want to look into a general android tablet from samsung or asus for a more "open computing" experience and better app selection. The paperwhite still wins in the "readability" category, but as you said lacks open functionality. All times are UTC. Page 1 of 1. Previous topic Next topic. I just found this: Ted Vollers. The book is written as more of a story rather than a textbook.
The author guides you through a journey of discovery. For readers with knowledge, such as myself, it may seem to move a bit slow, however, I plan to update this review when I have completed the trilogy. I do not have an opinion, positive or negative, as of yet.
One thing I like in particular, is that the publishers did make this trilogy into one cannon. This book is actually comprised of three separate books, which can be purchased individually. Some people may find the size daunting, or overwhelming, and want to take it in one chunk at a time.
While the option to purchase one book at a time is indeed available, being that they are all interconnected and meant to be read in a progressive manner, I am pleased to have this option available as well. Some report this to be a hard read. I'm not one of them.
I savored every word.
I took my time and went slow, letting it sink in. Im now on page for my second read. Excellent, top notch trilogy, for both lay person or scholar. Ive been watching his youtube videos for 5 years, and im pretty sure ive seen them all, while getting alerts for new videos. Im 63 yrs old and i feel that ive always known what Tom says is true, but ive never heard it expressed so eloquently.
This is the most important book ive ever read. If you are open minded, while at the same time sceptical, you will learn a whole lot reading this life changing trilogy. Much thanks to Thomas Campbell. This book, if read seriously and with an open mind, is simply life-changing.
It presents a coherent model of reality that explains all the data while making only two initial assumptions: One to two years before I read this trilogy, I had read Eckhart Tolle's most popular book, which opened me to a non-religious approach to spirituality. After progressing in meditation, I had a new sense of appreciation for my own existence as consciousness, and I wanted to understand the nature of consciousness and reality as a whole.
This was the answer. This is indeed a very rare type of book, not even in the same category as other great books I have read. One of the most important conclusions of this book is that all the tiny choices we make every day genuinely do matter and contribute to the evolution of consciousness as a whole. My favorite sentence from this great work is the following.
This book's theory of everything makes sense at an intellectual level, and in a spiritual level. It contains logical conclusions about how we came to be, and why.
I'd suggest this book to be read by everybody because it can help people understand their origins in a way that takes away their existential angst. It also provides explanation for people who have taken entheogens, or have done lots of meditation, but haven't understood what they were experiencing before.
So overall, it's a good explanation book for those who already have had "experiences" in the spiritual realm. There are only two problems with this book: It's too verbose, as others have said too. The meat of the story can easily be included in a page paperback. The pages in this book are not needed. I hope the author in fact releases such a "lite" edition and still be a Big Toe, rather than a Little Toe. The people who are going to read this book are already somewhat spiritual anyway, so they don't need the extra convincing that the author is doing in great lengths in this book.
I don't expect most hard core scientists to care about this book anyway, so all this verbosity about the difference of belief, science etc is just becoming way too boring for the reader. The author is redefining the word "science" in the book, in order to fit it in his world model of "personal proof" which is what spirituality actually is. Unfortunately, this won't sit well with any scientist.
Anecdotal reports, no matter how logical their carefully analyzed deductions are, are just that: Not science. This doesn't mean that what is explained in the book won't one day get explained by actual science, but we're not at that point yet.
This is why I see this book as a precursor to hard science books that will come in the next 50 or years, which will say the exact same things as this book, but with hard data to back it up. In conclusion: It shouldn't. It should just lay out the author's opinion as if it was a textbook, where only the important information is included, with few interruptions.
