Overall, this book reminded me of Black Dagger Brotherhood by J. Rescuing her from the Rogues one more time Tegan takes her to the Order. Elise lost her mate years previous, and then her son got hooked on a dangerous drug that turned him into a rogue. After finding the previous two books a little lacking it was so satisfying to see Adrian finally hit it out of the park with Tegan and Elise. Most recently, Elise also lost her son to the drug Crimson.
Her son was killed from Crimson drug. These two sad souls will find a common ground and they will try to be together. To be honest Elise did not really convince me at the beginning as Tegan mate.
I did not expect it and I was not exactly happy for it. Firstly, because of her Chase lost his job and changed his life while he was secretly in love with her. Thus, I expected them to end up together. Secondly she seemed a bit weak heroine for someone like Tegan.
I wanted something more for him. Anyway, I somehow was a little more convinced in the end for her suitability but I still consider her the weakest breedmate of the series. Tegan is shocked to see Elise fighting or living in a run down apartment wh This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance Summary Elise Chase has left dark haven, the only home she has ever known to get justice for the death of her son.
Tegan is shocked to see Elise fighting or living in a run down apartment when she could have the safety of Darkhaven. Tegan understands the pain and the need for revenge, but he also understands how to stay alive. Elise has a powerful ability, an ability that is crippling her in certain ways. She joins forces with the intense Tegan, in order to stay alive, but also to get to the bottom of what the Rogue leader is really after. They stumble across a certain book, which contains certain clues that lead them to Europe and their allies there.
Elise and Tegan will discover a secret, a secret that has been kept for centuries, and one that could destroy them. Soon Tegan and Elise not only discover a danger to their kind, but also a passion and a mating they didn't see coming. The Hero Tegan is a Breed warrior, and one of the most powerful of their kind. He understands pain and loss. He once lost his breedmate and still suffers from the pain of that loss despite the amount of years that have passed since.
He was betrayed and lost everything he held most dear. Now he has trained hard and is one of the most toughest and fierce of the warriors that fight the rogues. He hasn't made that many friends, he is brutal at times but is tough. At first he has quite a tough shell, a shell he has created to protect himself from getting hurt. A shell that most see as cold and unfeeling, but Tegan burns with quite a bit of emotion which he keeps under lock and key.
Tegan has that "Tortured Hero" feel to him that is quite heartbreaking, but I loved seeing him shine at different points in the story. Elise lost her mate years previous, and then her son got hooked on a dangerous drug that turned him into a rogue. Her son was killed right in front of her when he tried to kill her. Ever since that fateful night, she was changed forever. She left the only home she had ever known, Darkhaven, and left for the city where the rogues lay.
She trained herself to fight and to kill minions. Elise has a gift, but her gift can be crippling to her. She hears all the negative thoughts that surround her. What was most likable about Elise was her personality. She has always been reserved but kind and loving. But we see a change in her, where pain and grief have altered her a bit. She has become more tough and resilient, and I quite adored this side of her.
Even though there are times she makes mistakes, these are quite human like and very easy to relate to. Plot and Storyline Midnight Awakening continues a bit after the second book ends. When I first started reading, I couldn't believe our heroine Elise was the same as the character in the second book. They seemed so different from each other, but we see so much more to Elise.
We see her strength and her courage and her ability to adapt to a new circumstance and how she deals with her grief. I really felt for her character, because she has lost both her mate and her son. That was quite heartbreaking, to see her working alone and killing minions and trying to get justice for what was done to her son.
And in the beginning, when Tegan and Elise first interact with each other, I was a bit apprehensive. I couldn't see how these two would work and fit as mates.
They seemed so different from each other. At first, they really are at odds with one another and hurt each other even without fully meaning to.
But as they begin to work hand in hand more, they begin to mold a bit more and soften with each stage of the story. What was most interesting was how their relationship builds. It is different than the previous two books and I liked that. Seeing something, a bit different and unique develop. Both characters are tough in different ways and it was quite fun to see how they meshed together and created a wonderful harmony in their personalities.
Midnight Awakening has a bit more of a "mystery" tone to the story. It does have some action too, but the major drive of this book is the mystery and trying to figure out what the leader of the rogues has up his sleeve, and Tegan and Elise are the keys to finding out what is really going on.
We also see some of our other favorite characters, including poor Rio who is still recovering from his injuries. Now I want to talk about the actual romance a bit.
They have quite the bantering going on The sexual chemistry is blazing, they definitely have that going for them. What was most unique about their story was how they complimented each other so well I really loved the balance that develops between them. There were some intense moments but also some tender and romantic ones that will have you grabbing for your box of tissues.
We also see a growth in certain character and I loved the depth in this book that kept me hooked. Love the style of Lara Adrian and with each book, I get more caught up in the world building. The Cover I quite love this cover. Love how it relates with the story. Overall View Midnight Awakening was a brilliantly crafted romance that takes us across oceans riddled with mystery, suspense and desire Lara Adrian at her best with this one.
Dec 14, Shawna rated it it was amazing Shelves: Tegan is dark, volatile, solitary, sexy, and surprisingly tender. This is probably the steamiest book in the series due to the great chemistry and sexual tension between Tegan and Elise.
I loved this book! The Midnight Breed series rocks! First read Jan 31, Jan 17, DarienMoya rated it really liked it Shelves: Welcome to the world of Breed warriors, a group of vampires who have sworn to protect the civilian race of vampires and humans from rogues who have lost their senses to the disease of bloodlust. Bloodlust is the equivalent of a human being addicted to drugs, and all that these rogue vamps can think of is the undying need to quench their thirst.
It has started a war that seems to have no end. This is the 3rd book in the Breed series. Only through death will it be broken. So the chase is on to stop a evil and when one door opens another closes and the Breed is finding that out firsthand. Now another evil might be upon them and will they be able to stop it in time. I love this series, its fast paced and exciting. The relationship between Tegan and Elise is sweet and sexy.
Elise looks fragile and sweet but when she is needed she becomes a warrior too. A story about how a beauty tames the beast, and a love that heals. Miss Adrian writing is emotional and erotic, nothing like blood and sex to get your mojo going. Tegan oh Tegan you got me. An excellent read! Mar 11, Gina rated it it was amazing Shelves: Out of the three novels, I can't decide which I liked more. If forced to choose, however, I'd have to say this one is my favourite More excellent actions scenes that have you holding your breath.
More erotic sex scenes that leave you just as breathless as the characters I'm so unbelievably happy for Tegan and Elise, happy that they found each other, happy that they found the love that was lacking. After all they'd been through, they so deserve each other.
Maket gets what he deserves, Out of the three novels, I can't decide which I liked more. Maket gets what he deserves, but a twist in this one makes it far from over.
My mistake was reading the excerpt for Midnight Rising. It isn't out until March 25th and already I'm too anxious! I really like this series. At the beginning of this book I didn't like Tegan much I thought that he was too harsh with Elise, but in the end I think he maybe my favorite so far. Elise Chase has left the darkhaven that she was living she is a widow and after the death of her only son who went rogue after getting hooked on crimson the drug that Ben made that drug that turned vampires rogue her son was killed by her former brother in law Sterling she made a promise to hunt minions and kill as many I really like this series.
Elise Chase has left the darkhaven that she was living she is a widow and after the death of her only son who went rogue after getting hooked on crimson the drug that Ben made that drug that turned vampires rogue her son was killed by her former brother in law Sterling she made a promise to hunt minions and kill as many as she can.
Elise has psychic powers she can hear what humans are saying. Tegan lost his breedmate to the Rogues, or he thought it was rogues yrs ago and still he can't forgive them or himself. He feels he should have been there to protect her. The only way he exists is to focus totally on fighting the Rogues who threaten his people. Not that his people really appreciate the men of the Order. Tegan finds Elise being attacked by Rogues, he saves her and follows her home where he discovers she is hunting and killing minions by herself.
Tegan is also shocked at her appearance and how she is living he thought she was still in the darkhaven she has not fed and her power is killing her slowly. Elise has stumbled on a rare book desperately wanted by Marik, the leader of the Rogues.
Rescuing her from the Rogues one more time Tegan takes her to the Order. Everyone is trying to understand the old diary she has found. Elise is willing to do whatever it takes to help the Order Tegan is so rude and crass with her trying to scare her off because he has some kind of feeling for her so his answer is to treat her like dirt when she goes to him for help.
I loved how this book flowed and I loved the chemistry between Tegan and Elise. This book was very well written read as I listened to it. This book had a lot of action and I don't want to put to many spoilers in this review. We also meet some new members to the Order that I am looking forward to reading about. If you like hot male vamps I would recommend you read this series.

The couple is matched perfectly. Both of them have lost mates due to the war with the Rogues. Most recently, Elise also lost her son to the drug Crimson. They know pain loss and Tegan especially understands Elise's need to kill as many Minions as she can.
He's been filled with the same need for the past five hundred years. T It's official. The romance builds quickly but more believably than in past books.
Elise has already been a part of the Breed world for around a hundred years so we could skip the whole "OMG vampires exist? Elise is strong and capable but unlike the past two heroines she has no TSTL moment of leaving the Order's super secure compound only to get herself kidnapped. While I liked Tegan a great deal he seemed a little too much like the cookie cutter hardened badass. Even though this series focuses more on the men, I found Elise's journey to accept love again much more interesting than Tegan's.
My favorite scene in the series so far happens towards the end and sealed the deal with me and the Breed. Breedmates all have special gifts and watching the women work together using their gifts to solve an important piece of the puzzle won me over right there. In so many other series involving warriors the females disappear or don't really have a role to play in the battle against evil. Not so in the Order. Through their special talents the Breedmates can contribute to the cause without being on the front line.
Adrian keeps giving me more and more of what I love about this series.
A diverse cast of warriors, empowered females and a new great evil that makes Marek look like a declawed kitten. She's also introduced yet another character I can't wait to get more of. German playboy Andreas. I'm such a sucker for stories of a gigolo who meets that one woman he can't live without. View all 3 comments. View all 5 comments. Nov 25, Rebecca rated it really liked it. Midnight Breed, 3 The relationship between hardcore Breed warrior Tegan and beautiful Darkhaven widow Elise Chase was steamy and compelling, stemming from admiration and common purpose.
The story is nicely done, very suspenseful, and seems to lead the series in a new direction. Great ending! Mar 21, Christel rated it it was amazing Shelves: This is the 3rd book in the Midnight Breed series and I have liked this one the best so far. Tegan is an old vampire, a generation one.
Elise is the formaer Breedmate to a Darkhaven breed who was killed. He son was killed in the last book, "Kiss of Crimson". Just the interaction as Tegan and Elise fight their feelings for one another is great. Now off to reaad Number4. Sep 26, Stellaria rated it liked it Shelves: Maybe I did a mistake jumping right on book number 3 in the series but the blurb was great, so I decided to start from there. The plot was very interesting.
I like to read paranormal books once in a while and the start was promising. But in the half of the book I felt kind of tired. The author's describing the main characters was different from what their actions spoke to me. I was feeling something else, my impression was different. For example the main character Elise was describe 3 star rating! For example the main character Elise was described as a strong willed heroine, which I did understand since the big amount of loss she has suffered in her life.
But her interactions with Tegan spoke to me that she was not. And I have to say I didn't like her at all. I had some mixed feelings about Tegan as well. I didn't loved him, but I didn't hate him as well. The chemistry between them wasn't intense or maybe I didn't catch it all. The plot was very interesting and the writing was very good. Probably the characters in the book just didn't gave me what I wanted at that time. Midnight Awakening was incredible! This book was different than the first two, in a good way.
Even though I loved Kiss of Midnight and Kiss of Crimson, Midnight Awakening is a very powerful story with two amazing main characters. I always prefer the hero. But in this book, I really loved them both. Tegan and Elise are awesome and their story was so good! Tegan is a very dark and cold character and Elise is the complete opposite. But, like I said, Lara did such a great job with them. They truly are perfect for each other, they complete each other and I loved reading their story!
After the death of her son in Kiss of Crimson , Elise is decided to avenge him and her late husband. She is such a brave woman, I was in awe of her.
I loved her determination, she was smart and she did not do anything stupid and YAY for that! But Elise is also a fragile female, her special ability to hear the thoughts of humans is really hard on her and five long years without vampire blood is making her weak. I was also super surprised with him, I knew I was going to like him but I did much more than that, I freaking love him!
He wants to protect himself by distancing himself from everyone. They formed the perfect couple. Lara brought them together slowly, smartly. She did it so well! It was not easy but it was worth it. I loved Elise even more for her tenacity, sure she had her doubts at some point, which is understandable but she never gave up on Tegan, she stayed by his side and her love for him was beautiful. Tegan was more difficult, after all these years of loneliness, it was not easy for him to open up to someone else.
When they truly were together, it was perfect! The sex scenes were also steamier and oh my, yes! The plot in Midnight Awakening was better as well! It was very interesting and more complex.
And the ending killed me! I liked the plot because it was a good part of the story and even though the romance was the main focus, the plot was important.
It was intriguing and I was so freaking excited when Elise found out about the tapestry! Anyway, Lara sure did a better job, for me, with the plot in this book. The ending was perfect, the suspense is killing me! In the first two books, Tegan hates Lucan and Lucan is pissed at Tegan for doing everything solo. And they have a past, I mean, I was expecting more. I wanted more anger, more yelling, more everything. But hey! In this book, he seemed more human, less cold and I was surprised by this.
I came to actually care a little about Sterling Chase. I just pity the guy. I promise you will not regret it. Lara is a great and unique writer, give her a chance! May 19, Soraia rated it liked it Shelves: The Midnight Breed series is something that requires patience.
On the first book you get a rough story, with not much of a plot line and lots of unexplained details. The heroine, Gabrielle, is nothing interesting, the conflicts are not well justified and the hero's nine hundred years of past are just boring. The second book gets a little better. The heroine is more charming with a better constructed past, an amazing breedmate ability but still a little annoying.
Dante, the hero, is less conflict The Midnight Breed series is something that requires patience. Dante, the hero, is less conflicted, more practical and just provides a better story than the first. In the end of the second installment, it's clear to anyone that the bland Elise would be paired with the strong and mysterious Tegan. After two books that featured a great idea poorly explored and the promise of a dull heroine you think to give up, I know I did, but hold on just a little.
The third book is a surprise for those with patience to get to it. I thought that Elise would never serve for a good heroine in the delicate way she's presented first, blushing for a stronger draft of air and shocked by any foul language.
Boy, was I wrong? Elise is so far the best heroine in the series: She's not a super woman, she has her flaws, some insecurities but nothing overplayed and all perfectly normal to a woman in her position. She's also one of the few heroines I've ever read who's stubborn without being stupid - this is an amazing achievement for the author, most don't get the difference.
Tegan is just as interesting as he's supposed to be: This plot line is the best one as well, efficiently built and engaging. Adrian manages to explain some things left from the past stories, adding important details to the series as a whole and finally creates a captivating mystery.
It's also the first one you don't get excessive pages of doubts and the main characters thinking of insignificant problems that won't get them anywhere. In this one they are either facing something important for the Order or doing something about their relationship, even if it's fighting.
Great betterment. I believe Adrian is getting more into the story as she goes, considering more details and how they'll develop further in the plot.
There are still details thrown in the mix that end up insignificant in the end or just forgotten, like the relationship between Elise and Chase. It was an important part of the second book, it shows up on this one but nothing really happens, not even a conversation meaningful enough to be thought as closure. I thought the battle in the end was a bit of an anti-climax, surely after everything that drove to that moment it could have been at least more detailed. I still maintain my opinion that Adrian could use a bit more of description on her scenes, most places they go are just left to the reader to invent how they want it to be.
It's an option some authors choose but when creating a whole fantastic society, you should expect a bit more of a guideline. As I said before about the other books, I'm still trying to figure out how a Darkhaven looks like. Apart from that I was pleasantly surprised with this book, either if it was for lack of expectations or for it's betterment I can't really say, but I suspect this series is heading to be a good one.
I have read 4 books in the series so far and I like it very much. Midnight Awakening is the 3rd book in the series and by far my favourite Tegan is a dark, sexy, cold, tortured, loyal and very strong Gen One warrior member of the Breeds vampires who fight the evil vampires known as Rogues.
He is determined never to trust anyone or get close to a woman due to losing his breed mate hundreds of years ago to the evil vampires. He cares only about justice and vengeance and has no feelings in his cold heart. Elise Chace, who we met in the previous book, Kiss of Crimson and did not really impress me that much She moves out from the safety she has always known to a dark, seedy and dangerous part of Boston, where she assumes an almost vigilant status by drawing out the Rogues and their minions and killing as many as possible.
Her transformation is beyond amazing I love the new Elise And her way of dealing with unwanted attention from males is to be admired She is my favourite heroine in this series I just love her character After forging an alliance, with both not trusting each, they slowly feel an incredible connection which they fight against. Unable to keep their feelings for each other is very difficult and when they connect From the beginning, you can feel the sizzling chemistry between them that slowly builds to a boiling point — finding their love and commitment to each other for eternity.
Like her using different settings — Boston, Berlin, Prague Somehow it makes it so much more believable to me. Also including characters from her previous books gets us to become more engaged with them.
I so admire her female characters who are not the males shadows but play a huge part in their lives and the struggles and fights against evil. They have a voice and opinion which is appreciated. The suspense is taut with non-stop action and the dialogue is really good.

She can't seem to get Tegan out of her mind, even though all he did was drive her home after seeing the horrible video of her son as a Rogue, and held her when she needed to let out her grief. Now, she's tougher and taking on Minions in daylight when she knows she can get away with it.
Her latest one leads her to a much more important find, a journal with glyphs that could be really important to the Order. After some investigating she ends up on a plane to Berlin with Tegan to question an imprisoned Rogue and find out secrets that have been hiding for centuries.
He would be so close to accepting what was going on between the two of them, but end up pushing her away. She was such a strong woman throughout the whole book, not just with Tegan but with her debilitating grief and her promise of vengeance. When he finally stepped up, I wanted to dance with joy! Possession rolled over him like a storm. He roared with need for this woman - his woman now, irreversibly. Please don't. I don't think I could stand your charity right now. His amber-tinged eyes were intense as he held her gaze, his pupils still thinned from desire.
When he spoke, he voice was rough, the tips of his fangs gleaming. I wasn't prepared for you, Elise. Holy hell Yeah, God help you, but I do. This book was incredibly intense both emotionally and storywise. Lara Adrian didn't draw out the drama longer than she should have and solved one problem only to introduce another.
